Julia Simon is a radio journalist and investigative business reporter.

 

She’s a regular contributor to NPR’s Planet Money, and you can hear her on the NPR business desk, and NPR podcasts Code Switch and Rough Translation. She’s also worked for Reveal, BBC News, Marketplace, The World and was a staff reporter at Reuters. Julia spent a year as a Fulbright Fellow in Nigeria, reporting on the country’s oil sector, and also spent a year as a Kuwait Excellence Scholar studying Petroleum Economics at the Sciences Po in Paris. She spent two years reporting in Egypt – before and after the revolution – and was detained by the Egyptian military for her reporting. She was a Henry Luce Scholar in Indonesia where she was the host of a radio show broadcasting across Asia. Julia speaks and reports in Arabic, Spanish, Indonesian and French. She loves soccer, salsa dancing, and old Hollywood detective movies.
